What's In A Name? That Which We Call A Rose By Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet

LONDON, UK, November 13, 2008 /United Kingdom News Articles/ -- Job titles are important - they can affect our motivation and career development. But do people put too much emphasis on what theyâ re called? Do they rely on titles to give them a professional and personal identity?

A survey of 1,500 office workers by another UK-based recruitment company found that 70% would chose a more motivational role or job title over a pay rise.

In an article on iVillage.com by Irene Krechowiecka, IBM admits that they title their staff according to â ˜what they do for our clients... Data Detectives, Cyberspace Pioneers, Art Directors, Process Innovators, Creative Technologists.â

But does this go too far, and risk moving from the sensible and reasonable to the ridiculous and just plain vain?

We did a little research ourselves to see what titles were out there for jobs in digital ; hereâ s what we found. Sensible or silly, you decide...

â Vice President of Development for its Emerging Business Opportunity in Digital Convergence (youâ d need a business card the size of a cheque!)
â Manager of Futuring and Innovation Based Strategies
â Resident Futurist (is there a non-resident futurist, as well?)
â Head of Horizon Planning
â Chief Risk Officer
â Chief Evangelist
â New Media Specialist
â Chief Diversity Officer
â Virtual World Bureau Chief
â Chief Blogging Officer
â Chief Interrupter Officer

The truth is though, that whatever you feel about job titles, they matter. Racheal O'Sullivan, Interactive Moves Account Manager says:

"In a day and age where job titles seem to be ever increasing in length, itâ s a refreshing change to see one that is clear and concise in its description of a candidate's/client's role within a company.

It makes for an easier job in finding them the role/applicant that they truly want."

As part of the Career Moves Group, Interactive Moves recruit at all creative and commercial levels across the digital arena. With extensive experience of the sector, the team provide the highest level of professionalism not to mention a real commitment to offering the best digital recruitment solutions.
