LateRooms.com - Discover Henry Moore at London's Tate Modern
Rebellious sculptor Henry Moore's work will be on display at London's Tate Modern and could be hugely enjoyable for fans of experimental art.
LONDON, ENGLAND, March 09, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Tate Modern in London is presenting an impressive collection of Henry Moore's work that should not be missed if people are in the capital.
Moore is described as "radical, experimental and avant-garde" by the venue and this exhibition of more than 150 pieces of his work should give the uninitiated a crash course regarding his style.
The artist's signature abstract forms are often derived from perceptions of the human body, with images such as reclining figures appearing in his work.
Travellers staying in London hotels will be able to see a whole host of items designed by him, including drawings, bronzes, wood carvings and stone sculptures.
Back in the 1960s, he was probably the most famous sculptor in the world, according to Laura Cumming in the Observer.
"Moore was an Official War Artist and his drawings of huddled Londoners sheltering from the onslaught of the Blitz captured the popular imagination," explained the Tate.
The artist, who passed away in 1986, is said to have rebelled against traditional views on sculpture and decided to craft pieces directly from materials, drawing on non-western influences.
Some of the themes that visitors may want to look out for in his work are sexuality, primitive art and surrealism.
Tickets for the display, which is on until August 8th, can be purchased online or at the venue and cost GBP12.50 each, with the Tate Modern open from 10:00 to 17:50 (GMT) daily.
