Big Splash Speedo House of Lords v House of Commons Charity Swim and Gala Dinner in aid of Hope for Youth Northern Ireland
Speedo, the world's leading swim brand, is once again sponsoring the annual House of Lords versus House of Commons swimming contest which will take place on the evening of Wednesday 16th November 2011, at London's Porchester swimming baths.
LONDON, ENGLAND, November 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The event is in aid of the Hope For Youth charity, which provides funding for cross community projects for young people in Northern Ireland.
This year's event promises to be particularly special as it will be celebrating its Silver Jubilee. Over 400 guests will be attending including top Irish and British celebrities from stage, screen and sport, who will join the Members of both Houses to support this landmark charity occasion in its 25th year. Ex-world champion boxer and television personality Barry McGuigan will be starting the races and after enjoying the pool-based action, guests and competitors will enjoy a black tie fundraising dinner in the magnificent surroundings of the Porchester Hall.
If past encounters are anything to go by the honours will be fiercely contested between the teams of both Houses. In 2010, the House of Commons prevailed so the team from the Lords will be keen to redress the balance. The 2010 event raised over GBP30,000 for Hope for Youth and the charity is hoping that 2011 will prove to be even more successful.
David Robinson, Speedo Brand President said "This is the 20th time Speedo have sponsored this prestigious charity event and we are delighted that this year it is also the event's Silver Jubilee. Our brand is all about inspiring people to swim, and through this event we can use swimming to make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people, by helping to raise vital funds for such a worthwhile charity."
ABOUT HOPE FOR YOUTH
Hope for Youth (formerly the Women Caring Trust) was founded in 1972 and is a volunteer-run group that helps young people in Northern Ireland, particularly those from disadvantaged areas.
Hope For Youth believes the best hope for reconciliation and peace in Northern Ireland is to support cross-community projects, where young people aged 11-18 can learn to work together to learn new skills, build friendships and develop their confidence in a safe environment. The charity's approach is non-sectarian and non-political.
The charity helps to fund organisations which foster teamwork, creativity and personal development across divides, especially in the fields of music, art, drama, sport and the great outdoors. Hope for Youth aims to help break the cycle of violence that has troubled Northern Ireland for decades and believes that every child deserves these opportunities, whatever their background.
Hope For Youth's team of local advisers works closely with the Charity to ensure that grants are only used for peaceful and constructive purposes.
